ACORN Impersonation Scam Warning

The Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) is aware that scammers are sending emails claiming to be from an ACORN government official. These fraudulent emails are being sent from gmail accounts. The emails are false and should be immediately deleted and reported at Do not reply to these emails.

Police agencies investigating ACORN reports will only contact you directly via an official email account or telephone call and they will quote the reference number you automatically receive when lodging an ACORN report. No legitimate requests for personal information will come from a gmail account or via social media channels. Legitimate requests will never ask that you provide them with remote access to your computer,  that you make electronic funds transfers to a third party, or download software.
